How we came to be
A family-owned company, Specialty Care has been delivering quality long term care and retirement living options to Ontarians since 1977. Founded by Antoine (Tony) Jourdain, Specialty Care was formed when Tony joined forces with a small group of investors to acquire a small nursing home. The next few years saw the addition of several more nursing homes in Ontario and Mr. Jourdain bought out the other shareholders to become sole owner of Specialty Care. It truly became a family business when Paula Jourdain joined in 1986, later becoming President, with Ray and Ann joining soon after – all adding areas of professional expertise.
With a vision to provide attractive, well-managed, quality long term care and retirement homes for all stages of living, Specialty Care has grown steadily over the years. In 1990, we built our very first new facility for seniors, Cedarvale Lodge, a combined long term care home and retirement residence in Keswick. Then in 1992, the Specialty Care ‘family’ grew again, with the building of Trillium Ridge in Kingston. The next few years saw us expand to seven homes.
What we look like now
As a result of ongoing, recent expansion, via acquisitions, new management agreements, and the development and construction of additional homes, the Specialty Care family of owned and managed long term care and retirement residences has grown considerably. From modest numbers in 1977, our staff complement has also grown to keep pace with evolving demands and ensure that we continue to provide high-quality care and services. Specialty Care has remained responsive to emerging community needs and has developed innovative approaches to care that set us apart as a dynamic leader in the provision of long term care services. As part of our commitment to promote and ensure the highest standards of care within the broader health industry, we have also expanded our management consulting services and Retirement Residence services.
What the future holds
The future of Specialty Care looks especially bright and stable, thanks to strong leadership and vision provided by the Jourdain family, our talented management team, the professional expertise and dedication of all the staff, and the many volunteers who add their special touch to help enhance care and enrich the lives of residents. |
